Serving Casselman and the Prescott-Russell Region

Casselman is a vibrant francophone community in eastern Ontario, situated along Highway 417 about 55 kilometres east of Ottawa. The village and surrounding municipalities—including Embrun, Russell, Limoges, and St-Albert—form a tight-knit region where bilingual service isn't just appreciated, it's expected. At Dtech Services, we've built a dedicated presence in the Casselman area because we believe every homeowner deserves to discuss their HVAC needs in the language they're most comfortable with.

Our team includes fully bilingual technicians who conduct consultations, explain technical details, review quotes, and provide maintenance instructions in both French and English. All our written documentation—quotes, warranty certificates, maintenance guides, and rebate applications—is available in both languages.

HVAC Challenges Specific to Eastern Ontario

Homes in the Casselman area face heating and cooling conditions that differ from central Ottawa in several important ways:

  • Colder winter temperatures: Casselman consistently records temperatures 2-3°C colder than downtown Ottawa during winter cold snaps, due to its lower elevation and open agricultural surroundings. This affects heat pump sizing—we spec our Casselman installations for -28°C operation rather than the -25°C we typically plan for in urban Ottawa.
  • Propane dependency: Natural gas service from Enbridge doesn't extend to many homes in the Casselman area. Approximately 40% of the homes we service in this region use propane for heating, which costs 30-50% more than natural gas per BTU delivered. This makes heat pump conversions particularly cost-effective for Casselman homeowners.
  • Rural lot sizes and equipment placement: Larger properties mean longer refrigerant line runs between indoor and outdoor units. We carry extended line sets and calculate refrigerant charge adjustments for runs exceeding 25 feet, which is common in Casselman.
  • Power supply considerations: Some rural properties near Casselman have single-phase 120/240V service only. We verify electrical capacity during every assessment and coordinate with Hydro One for any required service upgrades before installation day.

Casselman Project Highlight: Propane to Heat Pump Conversion

In fall 2025, we converted a 1,600 sq ft home on Principale Street in Casselman from propane forced-air heating to a cold-climate ducted heat pump with the existing propane furnace retained as backup. The homeowner was spending over $3,600 annually on propane for heating.

We installed a Carrier 25VNA036 3-ton cold-climate heat pump, integrating it with the existing ductwork and propane furnace in a dual-fuel configuration. The system operates on the heat pump down to -20°C, then automatically switches to propane backup below that threshold—which occurs on only 15-20 nights per year in Casselman.

Project results:

  • Total installed cost: $13,200 (heat pump, thermostat, electrical, integration with existing furnace)
  • Rebates received: $7,500 (Canada Greener Homes + provincial incentives)
  • Net cost: $5,700
  • First-year heating costs: $1,100 (electricity) + $280 (propane for backup days) = $1,380 total
  • Annual savings: $2,220 compared to propane-only heating
