Oil to Heat Pump Conversion
Equipment
Tosot Inverter Heat Pump, Tosot Air Handler, Rheem Electric Water Heater
This project converted an older oil heating system into a modern high-efficiency electric heat pump system. The homeowner wanted to eliminate oil fuel while continuing to use the home’s existing ductwork. The new Tosot inverter heat pump provides reliable heating during Ottawa’s cold winters while delivering improved comfort and lower maintenance compared to traditional oil systems.
Old Oil Heating System Prior to Upgrade
The home was originally heated by an oil furnace and oil-fired equipment located in the mechanical room. As part of the upgrade, the oil heating system was removed to allow installation of a new electric heat pump solution.

Installation Process
The Tosot air handler was connected to the existing ductwork while refrigerant lines and electrical connections were installed to integrate the new heat pump system. A Rheem electric water heater was also installed as part of the upgrade.

Completed Outdoor Heat Pump Installation
The outdoor Tosot heat pump was mounted on an elevated stand to protect it from snow accumulation and ensure proper airflow during Ottawa winters.

Completed Heat Pump Air Handler
Completed installation of the Tosot heat pump air handler connected to the home’s duct system.

Completed Heating System
The final system includes the Tosot heat pump, air handler, and a Rheem electric water heater, allowing the home to operate on efficient electric heating while eliminating oil fuel.
